Self-catering cottage in the English Lake District, UK: Moresdale Bank Cottage

Moresdale Cottage

A self-catering holiday cottage in the depths of the countryside is located midway between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, 5 miles from the market town of Kendal and within easy reach of junction 37 of the M6 motorway (3 miles)

The cottage is a single detached unit in the courtyard of the original home farm of Moresdale Hall Estate and is a conversion of a former farmworker’s cottage and stable.

The Surroundings

Visitors to the cottage may take advantage of the grounds which extend to approx 8 acres, mainly wild woodland and an area of grass immediately outside the french windows. The woodland supports a wide variety of birds, animals and plants including deer, badgers and the seasonal round of snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells and rhododendrons.

The approach to the property is over a stone arch bridge spanning a beck and waterfall.

There are many walks in the area and a favourite is the ascent of Lambrigg Fell via Moresdale Tarn to a height of just over 1000 ft above sea level with panoramic views of the Lake District Mountains, the Pennines and Morecambe Bay. The Dalesway long distance footpath is nearby and this can be followed in either direction to the Lune Valley or towards the terminus at Windermere.

The village of Grayrigg is some two miles away and has a church but regrettably no other services now. This is the nearest point for public transport with a few buses to Kendal and Penrith.

The national rail network can be accessed at Kendal for connection to the main line at Oxenholme ,The Lake District.
